The world of aviation and education has lost an extraordinary leader, as Tammera Holmes, President and CEO of AeroStar Consulting Corporation, has sadly passed away. Tammera’s profound influence on the aviation program at Aviation High School (AFAHS) in Chicago, Illinois, will not be forgotten. For nearly a decade, she worked closely with school staff and leadership to ensure that students had the opportunity to pursue careers in aviation and beyond.
Her impact on AFAHS was felt from the very beginning. As one of the first Principal for a Day candidates, Tammera embraced the school’s mission and quickly became an advocate for expanding educational opportunities for students. She understood the importance of providing young people with a platform to dream big, work hard, and achieve greatness.
Tammera’s passion for aviation, STEM careers, and increasing access for underserved populations—particularly African Americans and women—was at the core of her work. She founded the AeroStar program, which allowed countless students to pursue their private pilot’s licenses and open doors to careers in aviation. The flight simulation lab, a project that Tammera helped bring to fruition, continues to serve as a symbol of her vision for transforming education and mentorship.
Under her leadership, many students at AFAHS have gone on to earn their private pilot’s licenses, setting the stage for future careers in aviation that many would have never thought possible. Tammera Holmes’ legacy will continue to inspire and encourage students to reach for the sky, knowing that they too can achieve the impossible.
