Prentice Lenz, the respected basketball coach at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, has passed away on Saturday, November 30th, 2024. A standout player and coach, Lenz’s death has deeply saddened the basketball community, leaving those who knew him to mourn the loss of a remarkable individual.
Lenz’s basketball journey began in the Fraser Valley, where he became one of the region’s best players. In 1986, as a Grade 9 student, he was called up to play for the senior team at MEI (Mennonite Educational Institute). His natural talent and hard work on the court quickly earned him recognition as one of the top young players in the province. Lenz’s impressive skills earned him a spot at Simon Fraser University (SFU), where he made a mark before moving on to play with the Wesmen from 1992-1995.
Beyond his playing career, Lenz made a significant impact as a coach and educator. As the basketball coach at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, he led his teams to multiple championships, becoming a respected figure in high school sports. Known for his dedication to his players and his ability to nurture talent, Prentice instilled a sense of discipline and sportsmanship in those he mentored.
Off the court, Prentice Lenz was a devoted husband and father of six. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his devotion to them was a cornerstone of his character.
